Aggregate

Three stockpiles within the State of Maryland were used as a source of aggregate. These aggregate stockpiles were: Genstar #7, Barrick #10,and Genstar #10. The proportion of these aggregates used in the Job Mix Formula (JMF) were 45%, 49%, and 6% respectively. Table 2.4 (omitted*) shows average values of the washed sieve analysis for each aggregate source. The gradation of the selected JMF and the provisional specification limits for the dense graded mixtures are shown in Table 2.5 (omitted*). These specifications represented the coarser side of the convetional Maryland department of Transportation - SC surface course mix. According to the selected JMF, the proportion of the aggregates in the blend are:

Aggregate Type % in Blend
Coarse Aggregate(C.A.) 41.6
Fine Aggregate (F.A.) 55.1
Mineral Filler (M.F.) 3.3

This aggregate blend/gradation was used for all mixtures (binders) evaluated in this study.
